Who we are?
Helping Our People Excel (HOPE), Inc. is a women-led, rights-based, non-profit organization incorporated in 2010. HOPE is managed by independent non-partisan professionals with the requisite educational background and practical experience in various fields, including education, advocacy, gender mainstreaming, and capacity development, amongst others.
HOPE Liberia continues to be a leading non-profit local entity championing the cause of women and girls in Liberia, focusing on sexual reproductive health and rights, education, and leadership development.
HOPE employs a more holistic approach, providing personal/leadership development opportunities while advocating for supportive systems and policies. HOPE serves as the intermediary between government agencies/development organizations and the people. As such, our role is to:
Elevate the voices of the women and children we serve in national decision-making processes at all levels
Provide direct services and leadership development opportunities
Assess national performance and engage policy makers to improve access to services, justice, and rights, and
Collaborate with government ministries and agencies to ensure the full implementation of national policies aimed at addressing the challenges women and children are facing.
Our Approach
HOPE is unique in its approach, guided by the following three principles:
The voices of women and girls guide ALL our actions. The most marginalized women and girls are actively engaged in program design, implementation, and evaluation. They are the ones who set the priorities for policy engagements and make the recommendations at the county and national levels.
We build the capacity of women and girls to serve as local gender actors. As local actors, they develop and implement their own action plans for change.
We are intentional in engaging boys and young men in discussions and actions that address the effects of power asymmetries, inequity, social and gender norms regarding the rights of women and girls.
