Gender equality is a critical component of nation building, peace and security. Women are half of the world’s population and have a role to play in creating a more prosperous world. But they won’t succeed in playing this role if the laws and lack of access continue to hold them back.
Women in Liberia are gradually ascending to the position of authority or leadership in Liberia. However, women and children, especially girls, are still the most vulnerable populations in Liberia. Violence against women, including dowry-related violence, rape, incest, wife battering, female feticide and female infanticide, trafficking, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, that are prevalent in Liberia. It has had serious negative implications on economic and social development of women and society and is an expression of the societal gender subordination of women.
